Donald Levine

Good review. My feelings about Falstaff are exactly as yours. It took me years to get it but I can say that about a few other operas - Cosi Fan Tutte, Zauberflote, Meistersinger. Zauberflote still gives me a problem - every time Papageno and Papagena appear, I want to shoot them. Other than that, the music is magnificent. I can now appreciate Falstaff and as with Nozze, the last scene is glorious. By the way, was there a Fenton? I didn't see it in your review. Was he that forgettable?
